Position Summary:
UNM-Taos’ Humanities Department invites applicants for Temporary Part-time Faculty positions (Adjunct) to teach a lower division course in Second Language:
Spanish, Signed Language Interpreting, and other second languages. Salary is $1,017.60 to $1,100.63 per credit hour depending on successful candidates’ education.
These positions will be hired on an as-needed basis dependent on student enrollment, course offering matrix, and graduation requirements. The specific courses include, but are not limited to, the following:
Designed for students with little exposure to Spanish, this course develops basic listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and basic intercultural competence in interpretive, interpersonal and presentational modes of communication at the Novice Level of proficiency based on ACTFL guidelines.
This is a beginning-level Spanish course designed for students who have a cultural connection to the Spanish language.
An introductory level language course in the language of the American Deaf Culture. Content includes ASL vocabulary and conversational skills; linguistic features of ASL; and skills in narrative/storytelling.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield in which they are applying to teach. Applicant must have completed a program of study in the discipline or subfield in which they teach, with coursework at least one level above that of the courses being taught or developed (e.g., completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach or tested experience that is determined to be equivalent to the degree).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, particularly community college experience.
- Demonstrated experience in remote delivery of instruction.
- Native speaker fluency in the second language they wish to teach.
- Successful experience in practice or fieldwork (if applicable).
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
