The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full‑time, one‑year, 9‑month appointment as an Open Rank Visiting Lecturer, beginning August 10, 2026. The position is open to a generalist in Chemistry with experience teaching in at least two of the department’s undergraduate degree concentrations: analytical, inorganic, organic, chemical biology, and physical chemistry.

Graduate teaching may be considered based on the applicant’s specialty and department needs.

The successful candidate will teach a workload of three undergraduate lecture sections per Spring and Fall semesters, may coordinate student assistants, and participate in department service. Visiting Lecturers are reviewed annually. Workload is determined by the Department Chair and university policies.

• Design, prepare, and deliver undergraduate lecture courses in Chemistry.
• Coordinate student assistants for laboratory or lecture support as needed.
• Participate in department services and annual teaching evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications
:

• BA for Lecturer I, MA for Lecturer II, or PhD for Lecturer III in Chemistry or related field, completed by start date of appointment August 10, 2026.

Preferred Qualifications
:

• Strength in undergraduate and/or graduate level teaching.
• Ability to mentor diverse students at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
• Ability to contribute to other core areas in the department.
• Demonstrated commitment to cultivating an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
