University of New Mexico's College of Education and Human Sciences invites applications for an Open Rank Professor position in Counselor Education, specializing in School Counseling, for the 2026‑2027 academic year, beginning in the Fall of 2026. The Counseling Education Program offers accredited master’s and doctoral degrees (CACREP) and prepares students for licensure as school or mental‑health counselors.
Responsibilities- Engage in active scholarly activities and productivity.
- Teach graduate‑level courses in the school counseling curriculum and CACREP core classes.
- Advise and direct graduate student work at master’s and doctoral levels.
- Serve on program, department, college, and university committees as needed.
- Assume an active role in all program activities, including coordination, accreditation, and community outreach.
- Cultivate an understanding of New Mexico’s culturally diverse communities and support the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
- Ph.D. in Counselor Education (preferably from a CACREP accredited program by the appointment start date) or a closely related doctoral degree with at least one full academic year of full‑time faculty experience in a counselor education program before July 1, 2013.
- Master’s degree in School Counseling (preferably from a CACREP accredited program).
- Licensed or license‑eligible as a school counselor.
- Excellence or potential for excellence in teaching graduate courses in school counseling and CACREP core courses.
- Established or potential promising research agenda evidenced by publications, presentations, or grant funding appropriate for career stage.
- Experience assuming an active role in program activities, including coordination, advisement, mentorship, accreditation, and community outreach.
- Commitment to cultivating an understanding of New Mexico’s diverse cultures and supporting the university’s mission.
- Professional dispositions that include collaborative team work and a strong professional counseling and/or school counseling identity.
