Position: Permanent Substitute

Job Summary

The Permanent Substitute Teacher supports the mission of the school by providing consistent instructional coverage in middle school classrooms (grades 6–8) while modeling Christ-centered character and leadership. This role ensures continuity of learning when teachers are absent and reinforces a Biblical worldview across all subject areas.

When not assigned to a classroom, the Permanent Substitute Teacher provides support to the Middle School administration and faculty by assisting with student supervision, academic support, clerical tasks, and other operational needs that contribute to a positive and productive learning environment.

Full Time, 9-months, Hourly

Essential Functions Instructional Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom instruction for students in grades 6–8 in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the teacher to ensure continuity of learning.
  • Reinforce Biblical principles and a Christian worldview throughout the instructional day.
  • Maintain effective classroom management and student discipline consistent with school policies.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
  • Take attendance and complete all required classroom documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Facilitate assignments, discussions, projects, assessments, and classroom activities as directed.
  • Supervise students during passing periods, lunch, study halls, chapel, assemblies, and other assigned duties.
  • Encourage positive student behavior, responsibility, and academic engagement.
  • Communicate relevant classroom information and observations to the returning teacher and administration as appropriate.
Administrative and Campus Support Responsibilities
  • Assist Middle School administrators and teachers with daily operational needs when classroom coverage is not required.
  • Provide academic support to students through tutoring, small group instruction, or intervention activities as assigned.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, organization of instructional materials, and special projects.
  • Support school events, chapel services, assemblies, testing, and other campus activities.
  • Perform clerical duties including filing, copying, data entry, and distribution of materials.
  • Assist with student supervision in common areas, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned locations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student, family, and personnel information.
  • Serve as a positive and professional representative of the school to students, parents, staff, and visitors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Middle School Principal.
Requirements
  • Have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and demonstrate a lifestyle consistent with the school's mission to honor Christ.
  • Agree with and support the school's Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, and Philosophy of Education.
  • Cooperate and comply with school administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing school operations.
  • Previous experience working with middle school-aged students preferred.
  • Ability to maintain effective classroom management and establish positive relationships with students.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments, subjects, and teaching styles.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Proficiency with basic technology, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and educational software platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, students, and parents.
