Correctional Adult Education Specialist (Student Support & Assessment Focus)

Gordon Bernell provides an opportunity for students incarcerated inside the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center to continue with school despite their current situation. Join a small but dedicated team in providing one‑on‑one or small group services to students across the jail. This full‑time position will be split between providing direct services to students, assisting instructional staff, onboarding new students, light teaching and subbing, coordinating and proctoring assessments, and contributing to operational procedures.

• Provide one‑on‑one or small‑group educational support and services to incarcerated students.
• Assist instructional staff and support classroom instruction as needed.
• Onboard new students into the education program.
• Conduct light teaching and substitute instruction when necessary.
• Coordinate, schedule, and proctor assessments.
• Contribute to operational procedures and documentation.

• Enjoy being on the move—walking is a significant part of the role.
• Highly organized to track each student’s progress toward credits and graduation.
• Committed to engaging students to overcome complex challenges and achieve educational success.

• Experience in an educational setting; correctional background is helpful.
• Willingness to work inside a secure facility and a facility background check required.
• Transportation to the facility (daily commute from 20 minutes west of the I‑25 / I‑40 intersection).
