Position Summary
The Office of Advising Strategies (OAS) seeks Professional Advising Interns to receive on‑the‑job training and professional development in Academic Advising and Student Success at the University of New Mexico (UNM). This fixed‑term position, ending 24 months from hire, serves as a bridge for recent graduates pursuing careers in education, higher education administration, coaching, counseling, or related fields.
Responsibilities- Train to become a generalist practitioner in both academic and integrated advising; provide feedback to improve the training experience.
- Perform duties of academic advisors or student success specialists on an as‑needed basis across campus units during peak semester periods and targeted events.
- Support the advisement community during specific times of the semester and for special campus events.
- Assist OAS and center staff with projects and initiatives focused on community engagement, transparency, and continuous communication.
Must have earned a Bachelor's or higher degree no more than 24 months prior to hire, or be currently enrolled in such a program if earned more than 24 months ago. No prior work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications- Demonstrated commitment or interest in student success initiatives at the university level.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex issues.
Hourly pay: $18.81 - $24.52. This benefits‑eligible position includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as tuition remission and dependent education programs.
