Position Summary
The Department of Special Education seeks to hire temporary part‑time faculty to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Special Education.
The Department of Special Education is committed to addressing issues of significant educational importance to individuals with disabilities. We aim to increase the number of highly qualified and fully credentialed special education professionals who will provide services to children and adults with disabilities throughout the state of New Mexico and beyond.
Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment, course offering, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to add or drop classes. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Special Education Department Chair. Positions remain open until they are filled.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s in Special Education or a closely related field.
- Minimum three years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- PhD or terminal degree in the area related to the course.
- Scholarly work in an area relevant to the course.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching PreK‑12.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching adult learners.
- Robust formal academic preparation in working with individuals with disabilities in inclusive settings.
- Extensive experience working with individuals with a wide range of special education needs in inclusive settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reside in New Mexico.
- Successful experience teaching courses using a variety of teaching modalities (such as face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online).
- Licensure or certification in related areas, e.g., teaching, BCBA, EDAG, leadership/administration.
- A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the University’s mission to serve local and global communities.
