Manage, plan, direct, and coordinate the Albuquerque Community Safety (ACS) Training Academy and the department's comprehensive training and workforce development programs, including, but is not limited to the ACS Responder Academy, Field Training Responder (FTR) Program, On-the-Job Training (OJT), and continuing education. Develop and oversee curriculum, academy operations, instructional delivery, field training, competency evaluations, and quality assurance to ensure responders are prepared for safe, effective, and independent service.

Collaborate with department leadership and community partners to align training with ACS strategic priorities, operational needs, evidence-based practices, and evolving community safety response models while fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professional excellence. ACS is seeking a functional leader responsible for the development, certification, and ongoing training of ACS personnel.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assume full management responsibility for all ACS Training Academy services and operations, including curriculum development, instructional delivery, scheduling, resource allocation, and overall academy administration, ensuring high-quality training that aligns with ACS strategic priorities.
  • Develop, administer, and evaluate biannual responder training to ensure compliance with organizational standards and operational readiness.
  • Supervise and support Training Division staff, including instructors and coordinators, by setting expectations, monitoring performance, fostering professional development, instructional quality to ensure consistent training delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with ACS field operations leadership to align training curriculum, scenarios, and priorities with current field needs, trends, and service demands.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve training curriculum and materials, ensuring alignment with ACS values, best practices, applicable policies, and evolving community safety response models.
  • Coordinate and oversee on-the-job training (OJT) and field evaluations, ensuring trainees are effectively assessed, supported, and prepared for safe, independent field deployment.
  • Provide oversight of the Field Training Responder Program, including curriculum implementation, instructional delivery, trainee progress, and program quality assurance.
  • Facilitate and/or oversee classroom and scenario-based trainings, including academy instructions, refresher trainings, and specialized skill development sessions.
  • Coordinate and deliver ad-hoc and in-service trainings in response to emerging needs, policy updates, or operational changes within ACS.
  • Establish and maintain training standards, evaluations tools, and quality assurance processes to ensure consistency, accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement across all training efforts.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., APD, AFR, behavioral health providers, and community partners) to enhance training content, coordination, and cross-agency understanding.
  • Monitor training outcomes and performance data, using feedback and metrics to identify gaps, improve training effectiveness, and ensure responder readiness, accountability, and performance reporting.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts by evaluating training outcomes, implementing data-driven enhancements, and advancing innovative methodologies to ensure consistent, high-quality, and effective service delivery.
  • SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of recreation services.
  • Ensure compliance with performance-based training standards
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

    Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice. Or a related field;

    Seven (7) year of public administration, community engagement, quality assurance, criminal justice, government, non-profit or political organizational experience;

    To include four (4) years of supervisory experience.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
    • Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
    • Successful completion of a security background check conducted by the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)
