Position Overview

Archer Academy of Accelerated Learning seeks an energetic, highly organized, and student-centered professional to serve as the school’s GEAR UP New Mexico Coordinator. The coordinator will lead the implementation of services designed to increase college and career readiness, strengthen postsecondary awareness, and ensure students and families have the knowledge, experiences, and support needed to pursue education and training beyond high school.

Working in partnership with Archer Academy leadership, the New Mexico Higher Education Department, and GEAR UP New Mexico, the coordinator will align GEAR UP services with Archer Academy’s accelerated learning model, individualized graduation pathways, and commitment to preparing every student for college, career, and community.

This is a full-time, 10-month position (short-term) contingent upon continued external funding.

Program Leadership and Student Support
  • Coordinate the full range of GEAR UP services for eligible student cohorts, including college and career readiness, tutoring, mentoring, mathematics interventions, AVID, credit recovery, GEAR UP Week, college-awareness campaigns, and summer transition programming.
  • Align GEAR UP services with Archer Success, Individualized Graduation Plans, transcript audits, Early Warning System data, and each student’s postsecondary goals.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive pre-college programming that includes career exploration, academic planning, college admissions preparation, financial aid education, scholarship awareness, and financial literacy.
  • Coordinate in-school, after-school, and summer tutoring, mentoring, enrichment, and transition opportunities in collaboration with Archer Academy staff and GEAR UP partners.
  • Organize college visits, career-connected learning, job-shadowing, campus experiences, and other activities that help students envision and prepare for life after graduation.
  • Encourage consistent student participation and remove barriers that may prevent eligible students from accessing GEAR UP opportunities.
  • Serve as a mentor, advocate, and positive role model who reflects Archer Academy’s commitment to inclusiveness, high expectations, relationship-centered support, and student success.
Family, Staff, and Community Engagement
  • Orient students, families, faculty, and staff to the goals, benefits, services, and participation expectations of GEAR UP New Mexico.
  • Increase awareness of postsecondary opportunities among students, families, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Serve as a trusted college and career planning resource for students, families, teachers, counselors, and other educators.
