Position Summary
- The Speech & Hearing Sciences department at the University of New Mexico (UNM) anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and/or Summer 2027 Semesters. Anticipated openings will be for Adjuncts who can teach courses in a broad range of subject areas, including but not limited to the subject areas covered in the following UNM courses: SHS 302:
Introduction to Communication Disorders, SHS 430:
Child language development, SHS 431:
Child language disorders, Hearing Science, SHS 310:
Anatomy & Physiology. Please consult the UNM Catalog for descriptions of these courses. The Speech & Hearing Sciences department is seeking qualified temporary part time faculty members to teach undergraduate and/or graduate level classes in various disciplines as specified above. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching. Responsibilities will include but not limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering the course curriculum, developing and grading assignments, reporting grades, and assessing student learning outcomes as outlined by the Chair of the department.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, courses on the current course schedule, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Chair of the Speech & Hearing Sciences department.

Best Consideration Dates
- For best consideration, please apply by the following dates:
Fall 2026 semester – August 21, 2026 for 2nd 8 week courses and/or intersession courses;
Spring 2027 semester – November 15, 2026;
Summer 2027 semester – March 15, 2027.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications must be consistent with Higher Learning Commission standards and compliant with the faculty hiring guidelines. Master's Degree or higher in Speech and Hearing Sciences or subfield for which you are applying;

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified SLP through ASHA, Two years professional experience in the specialization or subfield, An earned doctorate from an accredited institution, Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, Successful experience teaching courses using a variety of teaching modalities (such as Face-to-Face, Remote, and Fully Online), A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
