Position SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Circulation Managers and other Law Library staff, supports the public service mission of the Law Library by assisting library patrons with circulation services in person and by telephone,requiring understanding of basic library functions. The UNM Law Library servesa wide variety of patrons including law school faculty, staff, and students,practicing attorneys and court personnel, and the general public.
The Libraryis typically open seven days a week during the year including Fall and Spring semesters, Intersession’s and Summers. This position requires evening and weekend shifts and all interested applicants must currently be enrolled o you will be answering directional questions and referring patrons to appropriate library service points. You will respond to patron’s questions inperson and by telephone regarding library hours, circulation statuses, policies and procedures.
You will refer patrons to reference librarians for reference assistance, as needed. Charging, discharging, and renewing library materials using the circulation module of World Share Management integrated library system. You will assist patrons with photocopying, printing, and assist themwith basic functions of the public patron account manager system. You will collect materials from study carrels andtables, browsing areas, and the book drop. You will also sort, shelve andshelf-read library materials by location and call numbers.
You will be scheduling library study rooms to law students, selling parking permits tolibrary patrons, and delivering documents to various individuals within the Law School after the request has been processed by librarians. You will be asked to perform opening and closing procedures forthe library according to library procedures manual. You will provide stack maintenance including physically shifting library collections and responding toalarms, report incidents to appropriate staff members, and contacts authorities in the event of emergency.
You may be asked to assist staff members in other library departments, such as Library Systems and the Journals. There will be other projects as assigned.
- Basic computer skills
- Library experience a plus, although not required
- Be committed to a teamwork environment
- Good public/customer service skills, ability to assist a wide variety of
- Library patrons in a respectful manner; patrons can include Law School
- faculty, staff, and students, as well as practicing attorneys and court
- personnel, and the general public.
- Hard working, trustworthy, accurate and efficient.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
