OverviewThe Regional Director of Alternative Delivery is responsible for managing the pursuit and execution of heavy highway and transportation projects delivered through fixed‑price design/build (DB), public‑private partnerships (P3), or progressive design‑build (PDB) procurement methods. The role ensures all design tasks are completed successfully, leading multidisciplinary teams of roadway, drainage, structures, geotechnical, utilities, maintenance of traffic/sequencing, and traffic/ITS specialists. The director cooperates with contractors and concessionaires to achieve project goals, keep schedules and budgets on target, and secure timely approvals from owners and third parties.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with WSP’s National Director of Alternative Delivery on business strategy, partnerships, and staff recruitment/retention.
- Oversee pre‑ and post‑award execution of complex transportation projects delivered via alternative methods, including pre‑award design, post‑award construction design, and coordination with contractors/concessionaires.
- Mentor and guide engineering and technical staff, monitoring progress and providing technical leadership to maintain high‑quality deliverables.
- Work with contractors, owners, and stakeholders to integrate design and construction activities and secure timely approvals.
- Review and approve design plans, specifications, and calculations, ensuring adherence to all codes and standards.
- Implement rigorous quality control protocols, coordinate interdisciplinary design reviews, and incorporate constructability feedback.
- Serve as primary design liaison with contractors, leading task‑force meetings and managing change requests.
- Define project scope, schedule, and fees from pursuit through delivery, tracking progress, risks, budgets, and reporting status to senior management.
- Prepare design documentation for permit submissions to comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Promote Alternative Technical Concepts (ATCs), innovative design solutions, and new technologies to improve project outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; technical proficiency in complex structures preferred.
- 12+ years post‑education experience in the industry.
- 10+ years progressive experience in roadway design and project management, including at least 3 years in a design‑build environment.
- Strong knowledge of Digital Delivery (Digital Twins, integrated design software such as Bentley Open Roads, Infrastructure Cloud, etc.) and project management tools (Microsoft Project, Primavera P6).
- Proficient understanding of DOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and other relevant regulations.
- Advanced analytical, organizational, and business acumen to bridge business and project management.
- Advanced critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills for program management assessments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective persuasion and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong self‑leadership, attention to detail, and adaptability to dynamic priorities.
- Independent work with guidance for mid‑ to senior‑level staff, adhering to QA/QC.
- Team collaboration in fast‑paced, multidisciplinary settings.
- Ability to elicit cooperation from varied sources, including senior management without formal authority.
- Proven track record of workplace safety and compliance with WSP policies.
- Adaptability to changing schedules and project demands.
- Occasional travel may be required.

CompensationExpected Salary (Colorado only): $157,500 – $267,700. WSP reserves the right to adjust within this range based on qualifications and location.
