Satellite AI&T Mechanical Technician
LOCATION: Albuquerque, NM
JOB STATUS: Full-time
CLEARANCE: Active Secret
Astrion is seeking a Satellite AI&T Mechanical Technician to support small satellite assembly, integration, and test for Air Force Research Lab and commercial customers in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with cutting‑edge space hardware in a collaborative environment driving innovation in space systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS- U.S. Citizenship required
- DoD Secret Clearance
- High School Diploma and/or Associates of Science degree in any engineering discipline
- Minimum 2+ years of professional experience in space vehicle AI&T
- Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented, integration and test environment
- IPC J-STD-001/WHMA-620 Certification
- DoD Top Secret Clearance
- Experience executing test procedures in support of satellite component assembly and integration
- Experience with mechanical operations in support of satellite AI&T
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently on assigned tasks
- Execute test procedures in support of integration, build, and testing of satellite(s) (components, subsystems, integrated vehicles)
- Fabricate various testing fixtures, stands, etc. as needed and identified for unique mission needs
- Designing, fabrication, testing, and use of lifting equipment on large satellites.
- Use of various hand tools such as lathes, cutting and crimp machines, and test equipment
- Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and cranes for movement of satellite hardware
- Operate and maintain environmental testing equipment (e.g., vibration tables, thermal vacuum chambers, bell jars, etc.)
- Support test campaigns, including occasional hours outside of a normal workday
- Safe and clean handling of flight components for install, mounting, and assembly.
- Use and abide by lab safety practices and protocol such as Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) awareness, FOD, and Hazmat
- Identify program problems and assist in establishing solutions and improved processes
- Aid in the continued build‑out, advancement, and growth of facilities
- Gather, compile, and maintain technical data (e.g., test results, engineering design changes, engineering drawings, engineering documentation, etc.)
