Mechanical Equipment Engineer II

OVERVIEW

Merrick is seeking a Mechanical Equipment Engineer to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in our project office in Albuquerue, NM or Los Alamos, NM. This dynamic multi-discipline engineering group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, glove boxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.

Annual pay range for this position is $88,000.00 – $. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

• Work with a team of engineers and designers within the equipment design group and interface with other disciplines (electrical, structural, and process, et al).
• Execute design tasks including the design of containment systems (glove boxes, containment hoods), material handling systems, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines), and pressure vessels.
• Perform equipment integration and installation, and preparation of 3D designs, fabrication drawings, specifications, datasheets, acceptance test plans, and calculations.
• Perform detailed equipment design of containment systems (glove boxes, hoods).
• Prepare 3D designs, fabrication drawing packages, equipment datasheets, fabrication specifications, procurement specifications, engineering studies, and equipment sizing & scoping calculations.
• Execute assigned engineering design tasks within schedule and budget commitments.
• Follow regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures.
• Coordinate and communicate design work with other engineering disciplines.

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program.
• Minimum of four (4) years of mechanical design engineering experience.
• Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, engineering analyses, strength of materials calculations, fabrication and procurement specifications and basic knowledge in the selection of materials.
• Experience with 3D design software Creo (Pro Engineer), Solid Works, or Revit.
• Working knowledge of MS Office products.
• Must have the ability to acquire a security clearance.
• Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.

• Professional Engineering License (PE) strongly desired.
• Familiarity with Mathcad or equivalent calculation software.
• Previous experience with NRC, DOE, or DoD projects.
• Familiarity with NQA-1-2000 quality assurance programs.
• Experience with supplier support, factory testing, and field startup.
