What Your Job Will Be Like

Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer excited by Sandia’s calling to render an exceptional service in the national interest? Strategic Firing Subsystems is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team and support fireset component development for the nation’s nuclear deterrent. You will work on a multidisciplinary team of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, system engineers, and electro‑mechanical technologists to develop fireset components.

You will support design, build, test, integration, and industry transition in a challenging fast‑paced high‑consequence environment.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Design, develop, and prototype electrical designs
• Coordinate with system customers, production agencies, and other stakeholders to support design, testing, development, qualification, and production activities
• Work with a team of highly skilled technologists to build, test, and troubleshoot electronics hardware
• Work in a laboratory environment involving high voltage electronics
• Provide leadership across multiple disciplines
• Mentor early career technical staff
• Perform modeling and simulation of design performance with tools such as Pspice, MATLAB/Simulink, Mathematica, etc.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

$117,500 - $235,700

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

• A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
• Ability to obtain and maintain Sigma 15 access

• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
• Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers
• Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling
• Background in analog circuit design and analog control theory

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

• Strong background in analog circuit design and continuous control theory
• Laboratory experience involving high voltage electronics
• Switched Mode Power Supply design and modeling experience
• Experience developing electronics hardware testers and test procedures
• Proven experience working in Nuclear Deterrence and/or DoD weapons programs
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask with contending priorities
• Active DOE Q clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DoD Top Secret
