Electronics Design Engineer – Albuquerque, NM
We are seeking a highly motivated experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our dynamic team focused on embedded electronics for Transportation Safety and Security Programs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and validation of complex electronic circuits, custom PCBAs, and integrated systems
- Oversee creation, review, and approval of detailed schematics, layouts, and documentation
- Drive integration of advanced embedded electronics and system architectures
- Establish and champion design for test (DFT), design for manufacturability (DFM), fault tree analyses, and FMEA processes
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex manufacturing and fleet issues
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams
- Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies in electronics, electrical systems, and communication standards
- Provide technical expertise and strategic support to stakeholders to advance transportation technologies
Required qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance
Desired qualifications:
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams
- Outstanding verbal and written skills
- Master's or PhD in electronics or electrical engineering plus 3+ years of design experience
- In‑depth knowledge and hands‑on experience in electronic hardware design, development, and testing, including PCB schematic capture and layout, microcontrollers, and communication protocols (CAN, SPI, UART, I2C)
- Proficiency with industry‑standard PCB design tools (Altium, Eagle, KiCad, etc.)
- Skill in requirement generation, mapping, integration, electrical validation, and testing methodologies
- Understanding of design for manufacturability, design for test, and FMEA
- Experience troubleshooting complex electronic systems and performance optimization
- Experience collaborating with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams
- Knowledge of regulatory standards (UL, CE, FCC, etc.)
- Programming skills in C/C++/C# and Python for hardware‑software integration and testing automation
Salary range: $117,500 – $235,700 (estimated; adjusted for experience, qualifications, and geographic differential)
Work location:
Onsite – the selected applicant must be able to work on site.
We require candidates to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance.
