Laser/Optics/Mechanical Lab Technician (Senior or Lead)
The Boeing Defense, Space and Security division is looking for a Senior (Level4) or Lead (Level5) Laser/Optics/Mechanical Lab Technician to join our team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The lab technician supports the Air Force Research Lab in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities using ground‑based telescopes.
Responsibilities- Plan, conduct, and document complex tests on products, systems, components, materials, and manufacturing processes and technologies.
- Design, fabricate, build, and analyze test systems, materials, components, software, and methodologies.
- Coordinate test requirements, determine test methods and capabilities.
- Prepare systems for test by guiding integration, fabrication, modification, setup, checkout, and teardown.
- Perform test article configuration control.
- Conduct complex tests, analyze data, document results, and participate in test readiness reviews.
- Identify and resolve test anomalies; troubleshoot and resolve complex laboratory and test‑related problems.
- Coordinate laboratory activities, maintenance, repairs, and personnel training.
- Assist government agencies, safety, and hazardous materials teams in emergencies.
- Assist engineers and senior technicians with optical alignment and other support tasks.
- Serve as a crew member for tests, including roles such as optics and lasers, telescope operator, camera operator, or atmospheric operator.
Basic Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in engineering technician, construction, or facilities maintenance disciplines.
- 6+ years of experience working with powered hand tools or equipment.
- Willing and able to work variable shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.
- Experience operating complex computer‑based analysis or control systems.
- Experience with high‑power lasers, optical alignment techniques, electronics/electrical systems, and mechanical systems.
This position requires an active U.S. secret security clearance. A U.S. Person, as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 (citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee), must apply.

Starfire Optical Range, Kirtland AFB. - Variable shift work.

Level4 – $75,650–$102,350;
Level5 – $90,100–$121,900. Benefits vary by location and eligibility.
