Position Summary
We are seeking a year‑round R&D Undergraduate Intern to support research and development in chemistry, materials science, and advanced manufacturing at the Advanced Materials Laboratory (AML) within the Material, Physical, and Chemical Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories.
On any given day you may be assigned to one of several technical programs, including chemical synthesis and characterization, nanomaterials and ceramics for extreme environments, and mechanical/electrical design and additive manufacturing.
Responsibilities- Assist with chemical/materials synthesis, characterization, testing, and modeling.
- Support additive manufacturing processes including Direct Ink Write, Polymer Selective Laser Sintering, Vat Polymerization, and 3‑D printed electronics.
- Collect and analyze data, generate reports and presentations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, chemistry, and materials science teams.
- Maintain a safe and productive laboratory environment.
- Full‑time student in an accredited undergraduate program.
- Major in science, engineering, or mathematics.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
- Ability to work up to 25 hours/week during the academic year and 40 hours/week during the summer.
- U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee.
- Coursework in materials science, chemistry, electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering.
- Laboratory experience in chemistry, materials science, physics, or engineering.
- Experience with data‑collection software, data processing, modeling, and creating technical reports.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Competitive intern pay based on credit hours, classification, and degree level.
- Onsite work in Albuquerque, NM.
