Rapid Space Capability (RSC) Laser and Electro Optical Systems (LEOS) group seeks an innovative, self‑reliant Mechanical Design Engineer to support directed energy and electro‑optical system development.
Position Responsibilities- Use CAD for mechanical packaging
- Assist and collaborate with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) teams
- Collaborate with peers on design
- Present designs to management, senior leaders, and customers
- Hands‑on hardware integration
- Develop and document mechanical, fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design
- Develop, maintain or modify system, component, and installation designs/proposals and provide design documentation to downstream groups
- Perform and document analyses to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
- Contribute to supplier development, test and production activities and guide suppliers to optimize integration and achieve program goals
- Support system components’ design/proposal standards to provide installation and detailed documentation
- Work under general direction
- Willing to travel domestically as needed
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical, or Material Sciences)
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship mandatory)
- 1+ year(s) of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Level
2)
- 3+ years of related systems design and integration experience or equivalent education and experience (Level
3) - Active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance (active within the past 24 months)
- Experience with electro‑optic development programs
- Experience with systems engineering and integration of complex systems
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis tools such as Hypermesh, Inspire, FEMAP, ANSYS and other industry FEA tools
- Experience with technical analysis (structural, thermal, dynamics, etc.)
- Experience working with Solid Works, NX, Creo, Teamcenter, or other standard industry CAD and PDM tools
- Experience with harness design and construction and associated CAD routing tools; familiarity with SAE AS50881, Wiring Aerospace Vehicle, NASA‑STD 8739.4, crimping, interconnecting cables, harnesses, and wiring
Applicants must satisfy Boeing’s Conflict of Interest assessment process. The Position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which U.S. Citizenship is required. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret/SCI Clearance Post‑Start is required.
Pay & BenefitsCompetitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities. The pay range for Associate (Level
2) is $85,000.00 – $ and for Experienced (Level
3) is $ – $. Benefits include health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, and paid and unpaid time‑off. Eligibility and specific programs depend on geographic location, date of hire, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
