Engineer Power Production III

Salary Grade: DOE

Personnel in this job title may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training.

Annual cyber security training is also required.

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, manages all of the engineering aspects of generation projects of moderate scope or for detailed phases of major project efforts. Supports operational areas through the application of standard and non-standard engineering techniques, practices, and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides troubleshooting, condition assessment, vendor capability determination, and test and repair procedures

Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations to diverse groups

Develops and implements projects and provides task updates

Creates and reviews work scopes, modifies/creates operating procedures, updates drawings, and review designs

Writes capital budget requests and provides justification for areas assigned

Oversees vendor supplied equipment

Leads or conducts performance, cost, and scheduling studies of varying size that are normally conventional in nature

Represents the Company
¿ s interests in engineering matters that may be varied and complex in nature

Provides technical support, direction, and activity supervision to contractors and other associates

Applies engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards

COMPETENCIES:

Knowledge of and ability to apply standard engineering principles and economic and decision analysis to area problems including generation, process, fuels, planning, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations

Ability to translate theory and physics to power plant applications for improving system reliability

Comfortable working in and around high temperatures, pressures, voltages (up to 345kV), and large rotating equipment

Demonstrates good leadership skills

Advanced interpersonal skills

Self-motivated

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR

EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor
¿ s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from a four year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET), plus four or more years of engineering experience or three or more with a Fundamentals of Engineering certificate.

Project experience is required.

Master
¿ s degree is preferred.

Three or more years of on-site plant engineering experience is preferred.

COMMUNICATION

SKILLS:

Ability to read, interpret various documents and apply national, state, and local codes and standards

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, write speeches, and presentations

Ability to speak effectively before various groups

COMPUTER

SKILLS:

In depth knowledge of personal computers

In depth knowledge of electrical engineering design, computer aided design, project management, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with complex problems involving several concrete variables in complicated situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequent sitting, standing, and walking necessary. May need to crouch, bend, and climb. Will be exposed to outside elements and will work at various heights. May lift 50 pounds or less. Protective equipment required includes a hard hat, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Will work around operating machinery, pressure piping, pressure vessels, electricity, computers, office equipment, and construction equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Time will be divided between office and field. This position may be located at either coal fired or gas turbine generating sites within the Energy Resources generating asset fleet. Must be comfortable working in a coal fired or gas turbine generation site.
