Job Title:
Civil Engineer
Join a dynamic team supporting the RAES Program, focused on investigating and remediating abandoned uranium mines. This position offers a unique blend of civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering, involving both design and field work.
Responsibilities- Design & Engineering (≈50%):
Support design and review of engineering documents for remediation projects. Develop civil designs including grading and excavation plans, stormwater and surface water runoff systems, road layouts, site development, and landfill and repository design. Produce engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and support construction planning and removal actions. - Field Work (30–50%):
Perform environmental site investigations, conduct soil sampling and radiation surveys, and assist with construction oversight and site activities. - Reporting &
Collaboration:
Prepare technical reports and documentation. Work closely with surveyors and interpret survey data/drawings. Collaborate with internal engineering and environmental teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Civil or Geotechnical Engineer.
- 1 year of experience conducting environmental investigations.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D with skills in designing cut and fill requirements, civil road layouts, excavation plans, and surface water runoff.
- Ability to understand and work with surveyor data and drawings.
Skills & Qualifications
- Preferred experience with the Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance (HELP) Model.
- Ability to distinguish soil types for engineering applications.
- Experience with remediation or environmental projects such as EPA or mining.
- Open to candidates with more office experience who are willing to engage in field work.
This position requires a mix of office work and field work, with up to 50% of time spent in the field. Field work is anticipated in Arizona and New Mexico, often in isolated areas. Applicants must be prepared to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, on uneven terrain, and in variable outdoor environments. Field duties include carrying equipment weighing 35 to 40 pounds and using hand tools.
Personal protective equipment is required during field activities. Local travel is required, and candidates must maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with an average of 1.5 weeks per month spent in the field. GSA per diem is provided for travel days.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Albuquerque, NM.
