Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer will support the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate in designing, developing, testing, and integrating electrical systems and components for space technology experiments and mission systems throughout their complete lifecycle. This role applies electrical engineering principles to spacecraft power systems, communications systems, command and data handling, electronic circuits, optical and electromechanical systems, and ground support equipment supporting space missions ranging from Cube Sats to ESPA-class spacecraft.

The Electrical Engineer will support all phases of the cradle-to-grave mission lifecycle including concept development, design, prototyping, assembly, integration, testing, flight operations, and technology

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in electrical engineering with specific experience supporting:

* Space-rated electrical system design:
Design and development of spacecraft electrical systems including power generation and distribution, command and data handling, communications systems, and avionics for space technology experiments, Cube Sats, Small Sats, and ESPA-class spacecraft

* Electronic circuit and PCB design for space applications:
Development of electronic circuits, power systems, and printed circuit board designs for harsh space environments including radiation tolerance, thermal management, and reliability considerations

* Assembly, integration, and testing (AI&T):
Hands-on experience with electrical system integration, functional testing, environmental testing, and troubleshooting of spacecraft electrical systems and experiments

* Interface control and systems integration:
Development of electrical interfaces between spacecraft subsystems, payloads, experiments, and ground support equipment including interface control documentation and electrical ground support equipment (EGSE)

* Flight hardware development and testing:
Full lifecycle electrical engineering support from breadboard development through flight-qualified hardware including design, fabrication, testing, and flight operations support

This position requires a detail-oriented approach to space-qualified electrical design, the ability to work in Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs), and cross-functional collaboration across multiple concurrent space technology programs supporting national security missions.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical System Design & Development:

* Design electrical systems, subsystems, and components for spacecraft, payloads, high-altitude balloon systems, and space technology experiments

* Design and develop electronic circuits, power systems, communications systems, and optical/electromechanical systems for space applications

* Develop spacecraft power subsystems including solar array systems, battery systems, power distribution units, and power management electronics

* Design command and data handling (C&DH) systems, avionics, and electronics for spacecraft bus and payload applications

* Develop communications systems electronics including RF systems, transceivers, antennas, and telemetry systems

* Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness designs, and technical specifications for space-rated systems

* Design printed circuit boards (PCBs) for space applications considering radiation effects, thermal management, and reliability

* Ensure designs meet performance, safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements including space environment…
