Interdisciplinary Engineer​/Architect

This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Facility Management and Construction in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It serves as a General Engineer/Architect within one of the Engineering Services Branches of the Division of Facility Management and Construction (DFMC).

• Managing construction projects from the planning and design phase through closeout.
• Preparing cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for design and construction projects.
• Preparing and presenting project information orally and in writing, and coordinating work with staff in engineering or architectural fields.

• Professional Engineer 0801
  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. Program must qualify for a bachelor's degree or higher in an accredited engineering program (ABET) or cover specified fundamental engineering sciences and advanced math courses.
  • Combination of education and experience: college-level education, training, or technical experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, along with a good understanding of engineering sciences and techniques. Adequacy must be shown by current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
    
    Other acceptable evidence includes passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or a comparable written test required for professional registration.
  • Alternative pathways: at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, or a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, geology) with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
• Architecture 0808 Degree
  • Degree in architecture or a related field that includes at least 60 semester hours of coursework in architecture. Required sequence: 30 semester hours in architectural design and 6 semester hours in each of structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
  • Combination of education and experience:
    College-level education, training, or technical experience that demonstrates thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, along with a good understanding of architectural principles, methods, and techniques applied to design and construction or improvement of buildings. Adequacy must be demonstrated by a related curriculum or experience.
• GS‑12
  • One year of specialized experience at the GS‑11 grade level or equivalent, performing the following tasks:
  • Managing construction projects from planning and design to closeout.
  • Preparing cost estimates, budgets, and schedules.
  • Preparing and presenting project information orally and in writing, and coordinating work with staff in engineering or architectural fields.
