Cobb Fendley is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Field Technician in our Albuquerque, New Mexico office.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE + KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITY (KSA)
Emerging //
Basic understanding and minimal practical experience; requires guidance and supervision. No experience is required.

  • Knowledge of field operations, methods, procedures, safety requirements, and environmental considerations associated with civil infrastructure work in outdoor settings.
  • Skills include use of industry-standard tools, equipment, and computer software to perform field tasks, document work, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to safely operate required equipment, travel locally, regionally, and interstate, with occasional overnight stays, and perform work in varying weather, terrain, and environmental conditions.
Responsibilities
  • General //
    • Perform assigned tasks with supervision and follow established procedures.
    • Develop foundational technical and field skills.
    • May operate a variety of vehicles, including large vehicles with or without attached trailers, as needed to support specific operational tasks, and perform routine maintenance to ensure safe and efficient use.
    • May cross train to perform other field services (Telecommunications, Survey, SUE).
  • Safety + Compliance //
    • Learn and comply with all basic safety procedures:
      Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Emergency Action Plans (EAP), and Project Safety Plans (PSP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
    • Observe and follow QA/QC processes under supervision.
    • Identify and evaluate potential hazards in the work environment.
    • Properly select and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Develop general understanding of Traffic Control Plans (TCP).
    • Begin familiarization with Federal, State, and local codes, regulations, and standards governing projects in their respective field.
  • Technical //
    • Locate aerial, buried, and underground utilities using approved non‑destructive locating methods (e.g., visual inspection, electronic locating equipment).
    • Identify building utility entrance and exit points, including demarcation locations.
    • Distinguish between types of telecommunications cabling (coaxial, fiber optic, copper) and related equipment installed on utility poles.
    • Identify and document telephone poles, strand, and pole‑mounted attachments in the field.
    • Measure and identify duct banks, handholes, manholes, and riser conduits.
    • Assist with safe access to and servicing of telecommunications manholes and underground structures in accordance with safety procedures.
    • Document collected data in accordance with company and CAD/GIS standards.
    • Read and interpret basic utility maps, prints, and as‑built drawings.
