Boston Government Services, LLC. (BGS) is seeking a CAD Technologist to support our clients at Sandia National Lab onsite in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
About Our TeamSandia's Design Engineering Group consists of multiple mechanical design departments that provide design engineering services using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as PTC Creo and other 3‑D modeling tools. We partner with engineering teams across the lab to produce innovative design solutions based on high quality CAD models and drawings.
What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technologist to join our Design Engineer Group. In this role, you will be at the forefront of innovation, transforming customer concepts into detailed product definitions that make a difference in national security. Each day will present exciting challenges and opportunities to showcase your creativity and technical expertise while contributing to critical initiatives in Nuclear Deterrence.
Tasks- Innovate and create detailed complex component and system definitions by implementing and integrating advanced design solutions.
- Bring concepts to life by designing intricate three‑dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems.
- Define products by transforming customer concepts into detailed specifications, ensuring clarity and precision in the design process. Present designs to clients.
- Collaborate and integrate with clients and team members, including CAD Designers, Product Design Engineers, and R&D Mechanical Engineers, to integrate defined requirements into your designs.
- Lead teams in the design of three-dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems.
- Master CAD technology: harness the power of advanced 3‑D CAD software to develop innovative mechanical designs, including mass property calculations, complex tolerance and interference analyses.
- Adapt to evolving requirements, working closely with R&D Engineers to translate conceptual ideas into practical solutions.
- Analyze and optimize product performance, gathering and analyzing data to drive continuous improvement and develop new methods and concepts.
- Work onsite at Sandia National Laboratories.
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and 3 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience using CAD software for complex 3‑D solid modeling and mechanical drawing generation and design solutions.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Successful drug screening.
- Active DOE Q Clearance.
- Experience using PTC‑Creo for mechanical design of complex designs and large assemblies.
- Experience using AutoCAD software.
- Demonstrated ability to apply mechanical design principles to formulate design concepts and meet product requirements.
- Experience with tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Certification such as ASME GDTP Senior level.
- Experience using a product data management system to manage CAD files.
- Experience with alternative/advanced manufacturing methods for mechanical hardware.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and strong teamwork.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
- Knowledge of NW engineering systems and the NNSA product realization process.
- Ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment.
- Experience in a lead designer role.
- Mentoring and staff development experience.
- Recognized technical expert in mechanical design.
- Participation in corporate or industry‑wide training, meetings, and conferences (e.g., PTC Live Works, Interoperability Conference) and sharing of knowledge.
- Fully onsite at Sandia National Lab in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- Full‑time, Monday – Friday, 40‑hour week.
