Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a talented and motivated Mining and Geological Engineer to support critical Test & Evaluation (T&E) programs in Albuquerque, NM. In this role, you will contribute to the planning, execution, and analysis of weapons penetration testing and conventional weapons effects modeling efforts. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and analysts to characterize geologic conditions, validate computational models, and deliver actionable data insights that inform national defense capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute test events in support of weapons penetration testing programs, ensuring accurate data collection, test integrity, and compliance with applicable safety and programmatic requirements.
  • Perform geology characterization activities including site surveys, subsurface analysis, and material property assessments to support target media definition and test planning.
  • Conduct data analysis of test results, interpreting geomechanical and penetration data to assess weapon system performance and inform model inputs.
  • Support development, application, and validation of conventional weapons effects models, including comparison of model predictions against empirical test data.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and analysts to integrate geological and geotechnical findings into broader T&E frameworks and program documentation.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, briefings, and data packages to support program reviews, stakeholder communication, and model validation milestones.
  • Identify and resolve technical discrepancies between modeled and observed outcomes, recommending refinements to improve predictive accuracy of weapons effects tools.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 8 years of relevant professional experience in geological engineering, geomechanics, or a related technical discipline consistent with journeyman-level proficiency.
  • Demonstrated experience in test planning and/or test execution within an engineering or scientific T&E environment.
  • Working knowledge of geologic site characterization methods, including subsurface investigation, soil/rock classification, and material property testing.
  • Proficiency in data analysis techniques and tools applicable to geomechanical or engineering test data (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with computational modeling and model validation processes, including the evaluation of simulation outputs against experimental data.
  • US Citizen with an Active Top Secret / SCI security clearance (required at time of application).
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting weapons penetration testing or hard and deeply buried target (HDBT) defeat programs within a DoW or national laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with conventional weapons effects models such as AFRL penetration codes, AUTODYN, LS‑DYNA, or equivalent physics-based simulation tools.
  • Experience working with Sandia National Laboratories, Kirtland AFB, or other Albuquerque-area defense research and testing institutions.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in a relevant discipline.
  • Graduate-level degree in Geological Engineering, Rock Mechanics, or Geomechanics.

Remote/hybrid status is subject to change based on Noblis and/or government requirements.
