Systems Engineer – Strategic and Military Space Division
Join the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) team, where you will contribute to groundbreaking innovations. We are seeking an entry to mid-level Systems Engineer to support Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) satellite missions. The position is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico on the premises of Kirtland Air Force Base.
The engineer will be an integral member of a joint Government and contractor team that operates in a dynamic, energetic, and collaborative environment. The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic, driven self-starter with strong problem‑solving skills and a desire to influence and develop Small Sat systems. This role offers the opportunity to rapidly mature technical and mentoring skills by being involved in every aspect of small satellite design, including documentation, analysis, fabrication, integration, testing, launch, and operations.
Required Qualifications- U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science with 2-8 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 0-6 years of relevant experience.
- Basic knowledge of multiple fields: mechanical, electrical, thermal, optical, software, controls, astrodynamics, navigation, propulsion, or guidance.
- Knowledge of systems engineering tools and analysis methods.
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively individually and within a team environment.
- Strong technical problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a system‑level perspective.
- Some travel may be required.
- Existing TS/SCI clearance.
- 2+ years of relevant spacecraft systems engineering or advanced degree(s) in a related field.
- In‑depth familiarity with small satellites, systems requirements, and subsystems.
- Experience with space hardware development and testing.
- Understanding of the space environment.
$80,000–$120,000. This range is a general guideline and may vary based on factors such as role, level, location, market conditions, and individual qualifications. Specific salary details will be provided during the hiring process.
