What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a highly motivated electronics technologist to join our team. Ultimately, your hands‑on electronics assembly and bench testing knowledge and skills will be used to develop and support electronics testing and identify and solve problems as they arise. The variety of applications requires a strong foundation in electrical and engineering principles—any part from resistors to ICs could require installation, rework, and characterization.
On‑the‑job training is available with this position.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Partner with our engineers and other technologists to develop and execute testing of various commercial electronics
- Assist on multiple parts being tested
- Assemble and rework printed circuit boards
- Troubleshoot testing problems
- Integrate hardware and software
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite.
Salary Range$74,700 - $144,400
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- High school diploma plus 3 or more years of directly relevant experience
- Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent (DOW Top Secret)
- Associate's degree in an engineering/electrical field of study
- Experience working in a laboratory environment, particularly related to electrical/electronic testing
- Ability to collaborate with engineering staff to test hardware and document test results
- Demonstrated ability to build cable assemblies to a drawing specification
- Demonstrated ability to assemble and rework PCBs to include components as small as 0402, Ball Grid Arrays (BGAs) and Quad‑Flat No‑lead (QFN) packages
- IPC J-STD-001, IPC 7711/7721, IPC‑A‑610 and IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 certifications preferred
The Advanced Radar and Future Fuzing Department is the Nation's premier Advanced and Exploratory (A&E) design team for Nuclear Weapon (NW) Fuzes, which includes advanced radar/inertial sensors, weapon controllers, and communication bus architectures. We are responsible for generating new modular fuze concepts, designs, prototypes, tests, and analyses for next generation NW systems. The department teams extensively with other Sandia organizations to support National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Navy, and Air Force customers.
We execute R&D for fuzing systems from the RF component level circuit design to Radar‑Inertial system level design and analysis. The Department also provides ongoing support to NW Programs of Record (W88 ALT
370, Mk21 AFA, B61‑12, W93) through close partnership with our sister Department 5353, Radar Fuzing.
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre‑employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
