As an Electrical Distribution Project Engineer at HDR, you will prepare and review technical deliverables for overhead and underground electric power distribution systems, including system planning, lighting design, grounding, and lightning protection. You will coordinate construction packages, guide junior team members, perform quality control reviews, analyze design options, assist with cost estimating, attend client meetings, and manage multiple project tasks while staying mindful of schedule and budget.
Responsibilities- Prepare technical aspects and deliverables for conceptual and detailed design of overhead and underground electric power distribution systems, lighting design, grounding, and lightning protection.
- Coordinate construction packages for overhead and underground distribution lines, including plan and profile drawings, structure assemblies, stringing charts, staking tables, bills of material, and related details.
- Assign tasks and provide guidance to junior team members and coordinate quality control reviews for work performed by EITs and/or Designers.
- Identify and implement learning opportunities for EITs and/or Designers through job shadowing, specific project tasks, and knowledge sharing.
- Perform quality control reviews of projects from other teams as needed.
- Provide engineering input on specific project design issues and questions.
- Conduct engineering analyses to develop design options.
- Assist with preparation of cost estimates or specifications.
- Attend client stakeholder meetings and lead design reviews with the client.
- Provide input to the development of project labor hours estimates and task schedules.
- Effectively manage multiple tasks across multiple projects while being cognizant of schedule and budget.
- Perform site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases of projects, including participating in field reviews or construction observation.
- Work independently on electrical clearance calculations, lighting photometric calculations, electrical load calculations, short circuit, overcurrent coordination, and arc flash studies.
- Collaborate with others within the group on technical report writing.
- 5+ years of experience in overhead and underground electrical distribution system analysis and design, lighting design, distribution field staking, joint-use field review and design, and knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
- Experience with electrical and planning analysis/design software such as CYMCAP, ETAP, Synergi Electric, Milsoft Wind Mil, SKM, and Polywater Pull Planner.
- Experience with design tools for pole loading analysis such as PLS-CADD, O-calc, Spida Calc, or Pole Foreman.
- Experience using CAD software packages for Electrical Distribution such as PLS-CADD, Micro Station, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.
- Experience performing electrical distribution modeling and planning, distribution coordination, developing construction work plans, long-range planning, line design, staking, NESC knowledge, and low voltage lighting design.
- Strong client skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
- Previous experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting, power, systems).
- Professional engineering license recognized by the board for the location of the position (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
- Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Revit, SKM, AGI, and Easy Power.

The compensation range for this position is $84,420.00 to $ (Nevada).
