Summary
This position is located on Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands Supervisor's Office with a duty location of Albuquerque, NM. The incumbent coordinates activities and plans for engineering on the Forest with other staff officers and with District employees. ? Major Duties- Implement project plans for engineering program.
- Provide recommendations for organizational and operational engineering objectives.
- Analyze effectiveness of engineering projects within a forest or natural resource management area.
- Prepare and/or review correspondence, reports, estimates, fact sheets, status reports, and schedules as required to complete projects.
- Provide workforce staffing oversight on specific project work to ensure sufficient technical expertise and capacity available to accomplish work.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for use in obtaining project funding or bid evaluation.
- Manage administrative facilities, recreation facilities, roads, and transportation programs with internal and external partners.
- Develop solutions to engineering problems by applying or modifying existing techniques
Plan the work to be accomplished by assigning work to employees and establishing production or quality standards for the unit’s work. - Establish and communicate guidelines and performance requirements to employees including conducting formal performance reviews and identifying developmental and training needs of employees.
- Performs supervisory duties 25% or more of the time.
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period (unless prior service is creditable). New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.
You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. You will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire.
