We are seeking a Water Resources Project Engineer (PE) to join our growing Albuquerque team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of water resources and infrastructure projects across New Mexico and the Southwest, including drainage, stormwater, flood control, water conveyance, and watershed management projects.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in hydrology and hydraulics, experience managing engineering tasks and client relationships, and a desire to contribute to meaningful projects that improve community resilience and water infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities Engineering & Design- Lead the planning and design of water resources engineering projects.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for stormwater, drainage, and flood control systems.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical memoranda, drainage studies, floodplain analyses, and master plans.
- Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates for public infrastructure projects.
- Design and evaluate:
- Stormwater collection systems
- Open channel facilities
- Detention and retention basins
- Flood control infrastructure
- Culverts and bridge hydraulics
- Water conveyance systems
- Municipal drainage improvements
- Support watershed planning, infrastructure assessments, and resilience initiatives.
- Manage project tasks, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Coordinate with municipalities, counties, state agencies, and regulatory authorities.
- Participate in client meetings and serve as a technical point of contact.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including transportation, public works, water/wastewater, and environmental professionals.
- Assist with permitting, regulatory compliance, and agency coordination.
- Provide technical guidance to EITs and junior engineers.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews.
- Support proposal preparation and project pursuits.
- Assist project managers with staffing and workload planning.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 5-10 years of experience in water resources engineering.
- Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and drainage design.
- Experience preparing engineering studies, calculations, and construction documents.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, agencies, and technical teams.
- FEMA floodplain studies and flood risk assessments.
- Local Drainage Criteria Manual (LDCM) applications and compliance.
- Watershed planning and stormwater master planning.
- Municipal infrastructure and public works projects.
- New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) projects.
- Water transmission and conveyance systems.
- Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects.
