Job Summary:

The Hardware Engineer supports the design, development, integration, test, documentation, and sustainment of prototype and operational satellite ground systems, satellite operations centers, and supporting infrastructure. This role focuses on developing and implementing Government-approved hardware and supporting equipment solutions; defining and documenting system requirements and interfaces; supporting developmental, integration, and functionality testing; maintaining configuration control and technical documentation; and sustaining operational hardware and infrastructure to meet mission availability requirements.

The ideal candidate has experience in mission systems, ground systems, or similarly regulated operational environments and can work effectively with software engineers, mission partners, and external vendors in a classified environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop system design specifications and capabilities that satisfy mission requirements.
  • Research, procure, integrate, test, and deploy hardware, software, and supporting equipment solutions under Government-approved, IA-compliant plans.
  • Develop or coordinate the infrastructure required to implement approved design specifications, including power, cooling, space, communications, and facilities support.
  • Work with internal and external mission partners to ensure system interfaces are well defined and documented, and that new requirements are compliant with existing systems.
  • Identify, review, and provide recommendations on ground system requirements with Government representatives and mission partners.
  • Interface with external vendors throughout the development process to inform and propose solutions that satisfy system requirements.
  • Perform incremental developmental testing prior to system integration.
  • Support external mission partner testing with the ground systems to ensure interoperability and to ensure external changes have no detrimental impact to existing missions.
  • Support test and verification processes to ensure system performance requirements are met.
  • Conduct incremental, iterative, and automated functionality tests and support integration tests.
  • Develop integrated test plans and reports for future capability enhancements.
  • Deliver updated system architectures and documentation upon completion of new implementations or updates.
  • Plan for efficient sustainment of ground system engineering infrastructure, including hardware, maintenance agreements, facilities management, and cybersecurity coordination.
  • Perform regular, scheduled, preventative maintenance activities on hardware and supporting infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and replace failed or broken hardware components while meeting availability requirements and adhering to the Government defined Change Request Process and IA requirements.
  • Maintain all external interfaces with and among system components necessary to conduct operations.
  • Maintain configuration of procedures, documents, baselines, and products to ensure positive change control.
  • Use appropriate configuration management tools and processes to track and implement changes.
  • Support and participate in the Government Change Request process, including Change Request Submissions, ERB, CCB, PER, and CAB activities.
  • Finalize system documentation to reflect approved changes, including hardware system documentation updates to the baseline as directed by the Government.
