Position: Project Manager I-II

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory seeks a Project Manager I-II to lead telecommunications and media-related projects that support world-class radio astronomy facilities. In this role you will plan, execute, and monitor complex technical initiatives, coordinating engineers, scientists, and IT staff to deliver solutions on time and within scope. Responsibilities include developing project plans and budgets, managing risks and vendor relationships, and ensuring documentation, quality, and compliance with NRAO and NSF standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage technical telecommunications and media projects supporting NRAO radio astronomy initiatives
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams of engineers, scientists, and IT staff to deliver project milestones on time and within scope
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and status reports
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, document requirements, and track action items and dependencies
  • Ensure compliance with NRAO, NSF, and industry standards, including documentation and quality control
  • Monitor project performance, identify issues, and implement corrective actions
  • Support vendor selection, contract management, and integration of third-party solutions
  • Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project management processes and tools
  • Support lessons-learned reviews and knowledge sharing across the organization
