Position Summary
The UNM Engineering Student Success Center is soliciting applications for the position of a student Accounting Technician for 10 hours per week.
The incumbent will support a range of responsibilities including accounting, purchasing, budget, and financial analysis. Routine duties will include processing expenditures, recording accounts receivable/payabletransactions, assisting with student and staff reimbursements, and reconcilingrevenues and expenditures to ensure accounting records are correct. The Accounting Technician will assist with the preparation of financial reports andwill work with senior staff on other special projects as needed.
- Maintainsor assists in the maintenance of unit’s fiscal control systems.
- Dutiessuch as: purchasing internal/external goods and service requisitions,processing direct pay requests, and/or reimbursements to staff and/orstudents; monthly reconciliation of department accounts.
- Preparesrevenue and expense projections and financial reports. Must keepapprised of UNM finance reporting and practices through appropriateemployee development training. May assist inassist in preparation of financial audit reports.
- Responds to a range of inquiries regarding financial transactions; researches and resolves problems.
- Reviewspurchasing, travel, and personnel transactions for availability offunding; checksmathematical accuracy, coding, and adherence to funding regulations anduniversity policy; may also originate or prepare these documents;processes invoices for payment.
- Assistsin the development and management of budgets for the department or assigned areas; maysuggest financial control procedures.
- Assists with other clerical functions as required.
- Mustbe able to work independently with minimal or no supervision.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Seekinga student at junior level or higher within an accounting degree program.
- Priorwork experience in an office setting.
- Excellent organization and time management skills, initiative, excellent computer skills.
- Pleasanttelephone demeanor; ability to interact well with internal and external clients with professionalism and a courteous manner.
- General knowledge of office procedures, discretion, ability to handle frequent interruptions, ability to establish priorities and adjust to the changing needs of the office.
