Position: Human Resources Specialist (Classification)

This position is with the USDA, Forest Service, Human Resources Management (HRM). The incumbent is considered an agency expert in the field of Human Resources Specialist work. The work performed has service-wide implications.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following:
Experience applying classification guidance, appeal decisions, and classification standards on a regular basis to classify Federal civil service positions for an organization or agency; and/or Providing advisory services and policy interpretation for a variety of position management and position classification issues in difficult or controversial situations; and/or Writing or editing position descriptions, writing evaluation statements, and providing desk audit results;

and/or Mentoring co-workers in basic classification principles and managing work assignments for oneself and others.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
