Position: Junior Health Physicist with Security Clearance

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Health Physicist to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) personnel dosimetry and radiation safety programs. The selected candidate will provide radiological support services, assist in implementation and maintenance of radiation protection initiatives, and contribute to Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) compliance and program effectiveness.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to develop technical expertise while supporting mission-critical radiological safety operations. Duties:
Personnel Dosimetry Program Support:
* Provide radiological support services for DTRA's personnel dosimetry program.
* Participate in meetings with the Air Force Dosimetry Center (AFDC) regarding issuance, shipment, distribution, use, return, processing, and recordkeeping associated with optically stimulated luminescence dosimeters (OSLs).
* Support field activities in the use of OSLs and assist with all administrative aspects of managing the DTRA Dosimetry Program.
* Coordinate the distribution, return, and calibration of electronic personal dosimeters (EPDs) to field activities.
* Assist in distribution, posting, and return of neutron area monitoring devices. Radiation Safety and Health Physics Support:
* Under the guidance of ESOH government health physics staff:
* Apply principles, practices, and techniques of health physics and radiation safety.
* Assist in development and implementation of radiation safety program policies and procedures.
* Support the performance of radiation and contamination surveys.
* Assist in conducting radiation safety training for employees.
* Maintain and review program records, including leak tests, source inventories, training documentation, instrument calibration, and radioactive material shipping and transportation records.
* Participate in investigations of radiological incidents and development of corrective actions.
* Support radiation safety and regulatory compliance audits. Collaboration and Program Support:
* Collaborate with health and safety professionals to promote a safe working environment.
* Support ESOH marketing initiatives and safety awareness campaigns.
* Provide general programmatic and administrative support to ensure effective and compliant radiological operations. Required

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in natural science or engineering that includes at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, calculus, or a related field. OR
* A combination of education and experience demonstrating comparable coursework and understanding of sciences applicable to health physics. OR
* Certification as a Health Physicist by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or certification as a Radiation Protection Technologist by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT).

Required Experience:

* Minimum of one to four (1-4) years of experience in health physics, radiation safety, or a related field.
* Familiarity with radiation protection principles, dosimetry programs, and radiological safety procedures.
* Experience supporting radiological surveys, recordkeeping, or compliance activities is preferred.

Required Skills:

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Work Location:

This position supports one full-time equivalent (FTE) and will be located at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
