Position Summary

The Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented student to join the Quality, Safety, and Clinical Operations team. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a student interested in healthcare delivery, quality improvement, and clinical operations within an academic medical center. The student will support departmental quality and safety efforts through weekly data abstraction, analysis of clinical outcomes, maintenance of mortality review records, and coordination of committee review processes.

In addition, the position assists with clinical operations by reviewing documentation for compliance, supporting communication between billing, coding, and faculty, and completing ad‑hoc data and operational tasks.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable learning new software and databases, and proficient in Excel. This position requires the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accuracy in fast‑paced environments, and collaborate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative team members. The selected student will work 16–20 hours per week during the academic year, with the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week during summer break.

This is a hands‑on, immersive role well‑suited for students interested in pursuing a future career in healthcare, quality improvement, or clinical operations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of office experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook calendar and inbox).
  • Excellent data entry skills
  • Desire to work in the healthcare field
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge of computer and database systems
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to complete tasks independently
  • Work Study Eligible but not required.
