Job SummaryA Pharmacy Assistant supports pharmacists in daily operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of the pharmacy by assisting customers, managing inventory, and handling administrative tasks. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions- Greet and assist customers with inquiries and purchases.
- Process prescriptions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Provide accurate information on over-the-counter (OTC) medications and health products.
- Maintain proper inventory levels, restocking shelves and ordering supplies as needed.
- Label and package medications according to pharmacy regulations.
- Handle cash register operations, process payments, and manage transactions.
- Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality.
- Assist in preparing insurance claims and verifying customer details.
- Ensure the pharmacy remains clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the pharmacist.
- High school diploma or equivalent (certification in pharmacy assistance is a plus).
- Previous experience in a pharmacy or retail environment preferred.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Basic knowledge of pharmaceuticals and medical terminology.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in handling prescriptions and transactions.
- Ability to work well in a team and under supervision.
- Proficiency in using computer systems for data entry and processing transactions.
- Frequently sitting at desk or computer while typing, completing paperwork, or meeting patients.
- Occasional lifting/carrying, paperwork, files, office supplies, up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional push/pull exerting up to 5-10 lbs. force, opening doors, file drawers, pushing files in drawers
- Occasional kneeling/crouching and ability to reach lower file drawers, stretching to store or retrieving materials.
Position requires constant mental alertness, attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy required. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and follow-through on all assignments. Must be able to work independently and be able to use sound judgment in critical clinical decisions.
