The Cybersecurity Lead will oversee the cybersecurity aspects of a mission‑critical satellite ground system engineering, development, integration, and sustainment program for the U.S. Space Force. This role ensures the protection of mission systems, compliance with cybersecurity directives, and implementation of advanced cybersecurity methodologies. The candidate will work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and mission assurance teams to design, develop, and sustain secure systems aligned with DoD and Space Force cybersecurity requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain a cybersecurity strategy for satellite ground systems, ensuring compliance with DoD and Space Force policies, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) controls.
- Lead the ATO accreditation process, overseeing documentation, vulnerability assessments, and accreditation packages to meet Space Force standards; maintain understanding of eMASS and CSRMC.
- Act as the primary point of contact for cybersecurity‑related interactions with the U.S. Space Force, DISA, and other DoD entities.
- Integrate cybersecurity into the engineering lifecycle, applying Dev Sec Ops principles throughout design, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
- Conduct threat analysis, identify vulnerabilities, and develop and implement mitigation plans.
- Develop and maintain incident response plans for cybersecurity threats and breaches.
- Apply Zero Trust principles to protect against unauthorized access across the satellite ground system.
- Configure and deploy advanced cybersecurity tools (e.g., SIEM, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning tools).
- Lead teams through external audits and internal compliance reviews.
- Mentor and train junior team members and program staff to increase cybersecurity understanding.
- Experience: Minimum 8‑10 years in a multi‑level cybersecurity environment for complex systems, preferably supporting Space Force, DoD, or IC programs.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency with RMF practices.
- Experience achieving ATO on DoD/Space systems.
- In‑depth understanding of CNSSI 1253 controls, DISA STIGs, and DoD directives.
- Background with satellite ground systems or space‑related programs highly preferred.
- Experience with SAP environments and requirements.
- Certifications:
- DoD 8570/8140 IAM Level III (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GSLC).
- CEH, GSEC, or equivalent certifications are a plus.
- Security Clearance: Must have an active TS/SCI clearance and be SAP eligible.
- Skills:
- Strong ability to analyze and mitigate system vulnerabilities.
- Experience with cybersecurity monitoring tools (e.g., Nessus, Splunk, Solar Winds).
- Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities.
- Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or related fields.
- Experience with Zero Trust Architecture implementation.

The likely salary range for this position is $169,604 - $229,464. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
