As a valued New Mexico Department of Justice employee, you will receive a hiring bonus of forty (40) hours of leave at your start date to be used at any time. This is in addition to standard leave accrual for employees.
Why does the job exist?
This position exists to ensure the stability, security, and reliability of the Agency's core case management system (Column Case) and related data infrastructure. Because Column Case supports mission-critical operations across the Agency, dedicated database oversight is essential to maintain data integrity, system performance, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity.
This role provides focused technical stewardship of Agency data while also expanding the IT department's capacity to manage complex support issues and priority initiatives. By combining database administration with advanced technical support and project execution, the position strengthens the Agency's ability to deliver consistent, secure, and efficient services to staff and the public.
How does it get done?
The IT Database Administrator plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity, availability, and performance of the Agency's Column Case data systems. This position is responsible for supporting the administration, monitoring, and optimization of databases that power mission-critical operations, ensuring data accuracy, security, and compliance with Agency standards. The role includes direct interaction with Column Case Engineers, assisting with upgrades and patches, troubleshooting database-related issues, supporting reporting needs, and collaborating with vendors or development partners when necessary.
Serves as a senior-level technical resource within the IT department, handling complex and high-priority IT service tickets, assists with infrastructure and application troubleshooting, and leads or supports strategic IT projects as delegated by the IT Director.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage sensitive data responsibly.
- Capacity to balance operational support with project-based work.
- System implementations, integrations, performance tuning initiatives.
- Documentation development, and process improvements.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in data analysis, design, storage, and security. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Candidate must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico; or must obtain a Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminals (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Limited in-state travel may be required on occasion. It is anticipated the person in this position will hold a valid driver's license and be able to lawfully operate a state-owned motor vehicle when necessary.
