This role sits at the center of how we run and grow the business.
Sr. Director of BI & Analytics is a senior, hands-on leader responsible for turning complex data into trusted insights that drive decision-making across the company.
This role requires deep retail e-commerce experience
, including customer acquisition, conversion funnels, merchandising, margin, retention, and lifecycle behavior in a high-volume transactional environment. You are not just reporting on these metrics, you are helping leaders understand why metrics move, what tradeoffs exist, and where the next opportunity lies
Sitting at the intersection of data foundation, reporting, and growth insight
, you are accountable for:
- Designing and owning the company's canonical analytics data model
- Ensuring financial and core business metrics are trusted and consistent
- Translating data into clear insights that drive growth and better decisions
You are the final owner of the analytical schema and metrics
, hands-on in SQL and dbt, and responsible for day-to-day management of offshore analytics engineers who execute against your designs and standards. You also own BI tooling, reporting strategy, and analytics cost discipline.
While this is a Director-level role with significant autonomy over direction and standards,
this is an individual contributor role for the foreseeable future. We are specifically looking for a leader who still wants to be in the weeds — designing data models, writing SQL, building analytics, and owning the details — while also setting strategy and raising the bar.
This is not a backend data engineering or data science role. It is a business-first analytics leadership role with architectural authority
.
- Design and maintain the canonical data models in Big Query (facts, dimensions, metrics)
- Serve as the final decision-maker on schema design, business logic, and metric definitions
- Ensure financial and core metrics are exact, auditable, and trusted
- Own dbt models, tests, documentation, and data quality standards
- Coordinate ingestion via Fivetran and managed connectors (no custom pipelines)
- Manage offshore data engineers day-to-day, setting priorities and technical direction
- Enforce best practices for SQL, dbt, testing, naming, documentation, and reviews
- Review work for correctness, performance, and usability
- Ensure data is consistently shaped for analytics, reporting, and self-serve use
- Own BI and reporting strategy
- Build and maintain executive and functional dashboards (Tableau or similar)
- Establish and govern company-wide KPIs so teams are aligned on how success is measured
- Deliver BI as a product
: semantic layer, trusted metrics, and self-serve analytics — not a dashboard factory
- Work closely with Growth, Marketing, Product, and Finance leaders to surface insights
- Analyze customer behavior, funnels, cohorts, retention, autoship, and margin drivers
- Use GA4 and site data to understand conversion performance and friction points
- Translate analysis into clear recommendations that influence decisions and priorities
- Actively review and manage monthly cloud and analytics SaaS spend (Big Query, BI tools, dbt, connectors)
- Design data models, queries, and dashboards with cost efficiency in mind
- Partner with Finance to forecast, monitor, and optimize analytics-related spend
- Establish guardrails to prevent runaway query, storage, or tooling costs as the business scales
- Turn complex data into clear, actionable stories for executives and operators
- Balance speed and directionality for growth with rigor for financial reporting
- Build confidence across the company in data as a decision-making tool
- Single Source of Truth: Company-wide alignment on trusted financial and growth metrics
- Financial Confidence: Accurate, consistent reporting on revenue, margin, CAC, and LTV
- Growth Impact: Insights that improve acquisition efficiency, conversion, and retention
- Operational Clarity: Dashboards leaders actually use to run the business
- Cost Discipline: A scalable analytics platform with predictable, well-managed cloud and SaaS…
