Machinist
This role focuses on operating and programming CNC machines to produce precision parts used in heavy equipment. You will work as a skilled technical expert, setting up and adjusting machines, selecting and using dies, fixtures, and measuring equipment, and planning the sequence of operations to ensure parts meet exact print and design specifications. Success in this position requires strong critical thinking, a quality-focused mindset, and the ability to work efficiently while consistently interpreting and following engineering prints.
Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, and operate CNC machines to manufacture precision parts for heavy equipment applications.
- Program CNC machines, including writing, editing, and optimizing programs to meet production and quality requirements.
- Plan and sequence machining operations to achieve final conformity to print and design specifications.
- Select, install, and use appropriate dies, fixtures, tooling, and measuring equipment for each job.
- Read, understand, and follow engineering prints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements.
- Verify part dimensions and tolerances using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
- Monitor machine performance during operation and make adjustments as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all shop and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machining issues and improve processes.
- Participate in training on equipment and control systems as needed to expand skills and capabilities.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience as a CNC Machinist.
- At least 3 years of experience programming CNC machines.
- At least 3 years of experience utilizing Mazatrol controls.
- Proficiency in CNC machining operations, including CNC mills and lathes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
- Strong understanding of machining tolerances and quality standards.
- Demonstrated ability to set up CNC machines, including tooling, fixtures, and work holding.
- Experience working with Mazak machines and Mazatrol controls.
- Ability to work independently with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Haas CNC equipment.
- Familiarity with Mastercam for CNC programming.
- Familiarity with Solid Works for reviewing models and prints.
- Experience operating and setting up mills and lathes.
- Experience working with Fryer equipment.
- Comfort working with close tolerances in a production environment.
- Willingness to train on new equipment and control systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in heavy equipment components.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Work Environment
The company has been manufacturing water and fuel tanks, coal haulers, bottom-dump trailers, and equipment transports for construction and mining applications around the world for over 40 years. You will work in a production shop environment focused on heavy equipment components, utilizing CNC machines such as Mazak and Haas, along with Mazatrol controls and related tooling and measuring equipment. The setting is hands-on and mechanically oriented, with an emphasis on precision machining, adherence to safety practices, and maintaining an organized workspace.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Albuquerque, NM.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
