Under general direction, serve as department spokesperson for the media and general public for the dissemination of information; write and distribute press releases and comprehensive public information. Work with internal divisions within respective department to promote, publicize and advance City objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Respond to and work directly with the media on all inquiries relating to assigned department; serve as department spokesperson.Participate in the coordination of various media events.Coordinate the distribution of departmental news releases and articles, brochures, and packets in various formats and platforms.Develop and coordinate programs to promote departmental services and initiatives using videography, photography, public presentations, and social media.Coordinate and schedule speaking engagements, special events and media interviews to convey information about specific department programs, inquiries or events.Write and/or edit speeches, press releases, brochures, fact sheets, newsletters, correspondence, and relevant meeting agenda items for assigned department.Develop and coordinate the creation, design and layout of publications including the arrangement of print, photography, illustrations, and artwork.Represent assigned department in appearances with various media; make presentations to the public, community organizations, businesses and other groups as needed.Develop and maintain a comprehensive list of media and community communication.Maintain and produce electronic calendar listings of hearings, events and public service announcements.Develop, monitor, and maintain databases and files to track activities and history.Develop and prepare various reports as required.Manage and update department website,media,and social media content.Assist with Inspection of Public Record Act requests from general public and the media as needed.SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Attend and participate in professional group meetings.Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of media/public relations and graphic design; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.Respond to public inquiries received from 311 call center tickets and emails; provide information as requested within the area of assignment.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, communications, business administration, public relations or a related field;
- and
- Three (3) years of marketing or communications experience;
- and
- To include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Successful completion of a security background check conducted by the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)
May be required to work nights and weekends on occasion.
Environmental:
Office environment, exposure to computer screens; certain assignments and projects may require outdoor and/or off-site exposure.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
