Travel RN - Med​/Surg

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Correctional Nursing position at a large detention center in Albuquerque, NM, requiring BLS, ACLS, and MOAB certification with night shift availability.

Job Details

• Work setting is a large detention center with a facility capacity of approximately 1,900 inmates and a current daily average population of around 1,640,

• Correctional nursing unit serving incarcerated patients across multiple areas of the facility,

• Patient care includes routine and emergency healthcare, health assessments, detox rounds, and triage of newly admitted patients,

• Referrals made to providers, dental, mental health, and detoxification specialists as needed,

• Required skills include phlebotomy, IV insertion, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and isolation precautions,

• Charting is performed in Cerner,

• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:00-06:30,

• Every other weekend required,

• Block scheduling is available,

• 13-week contract length,

Job Requirements

• Active NM or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted),

• Certifications required: BLS and ACLS,

• MOAB certification required; if not already held, a 4-hour de-escalation course will be provided during the first week - candidates who do not pass may be subject to contract cancellation,

• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required,

• Must be able to pass a facility background check,

• Candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility to be eligible,

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply, though prior correctional or relevant clinical experience is preferred,

• Conduct health assessments, triage and assess newly admitted patients, perform detox rounds per protocol, and make referrals to appropriate care providers,

• RTO requests exceeding 7 days require facility approval,

• A 6-month break is required for travelers who have completed 4 consecutive assignments at this facility or have reached the one-year mark, whichever comes first,

• New contracts and extensions must be a minimum of 10 weeks,

• COVID vaccination is optional; upload vaccine series documentation or a signed declination - RQI certifications are not accepted,

• No parking fee at the facility
