Summary
One position located at the Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC), Polacca, Arizona. HHCC is a Critical Access facility with four medical beds, a two‑bed birthing center, an Ambulatory Care Unit, and an Emergency Room Department. Additional location:
Zuni Comprehensive Health Center in Zuni, New Mexico; provides Emergency Room/Urgent Care and Inpatient Services.
One REAL be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Duties- Staffing & Scheduling:
Assigns daily work based on staff skill levels and patient acuity, manages scheduling and leave, and evaluates/counsels personnel using PMAP and COER tools. - Policy, Quality &
Education:
Develops and updates unit nursing policies, participates in Quality Improvement programs, and ensures staff maintain required certifications and ongoing training. - Unit Operations & Leadership:
Oversees 24‑hour unit functioning, conducts staff meetings, maintains reports and documentation, and collaborates with the Chief Nurse Executive to align unit goals with agency mission. - Assessment & Care Planning:
Conducts comprehensive assessments, develops age‑specific care plans, responds to critical situations, assists with procedures, and maintains electronic health records. - Treatment, Equipment & Compliance:
Administers medications, IV fluids, and blood products; operates specialized equipment; and ensures compliance with EMTALA, Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, and state Board of Nursing. - EEO, Leadership & Additional Duties:

U.S. citizenship is required. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31 1959. On‑call hours or standby duty may be required. Successful completion of a federal background investigation is required. A positive E‑Verify employment verification check is required.
Education and LicensureBasic Requirements: A graduate or higher‑level education (bachelor’s, associate, or diploma) from an accredited professional nursing program is required. The program must be accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
For foreign nursing school graduates:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required. All applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted state or territorial license or registration as a professional nurse.
For the GS‑12 grade level, the applicant must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower federal grade level or equivalent, performing tasks such as assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in an inpatient setting; implementing accreditation and regulatory compliance; supervising subordinate staff; preparing work performance plans; and resolving staff complaints.
