RN Pre OP PACU PRN
USPI New Mexico Surgery Center – Orthopaedics is hiring a Registered Nurse for Pre‑Operative and Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) on a PRN basis. The role offers full pay, no weekends, no call responsibilities, and includes paid holidays.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and oversee care for patients in the Pre‑Op department.
- Provide nursing care within standards of practice and center policies.
- Make decisions regarding direct patient care and communicate required information to team members.
- Assist in inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain required stock levels.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of the Pre‑Op area.
- Conduct thorough Pre‑Op patient assessments in an outpatient setting.
- Assist in assessing the physical and emotional status of patients prior to admission.
- Provide Pre‑Op instructions, explain patient rights and responsibilities, and describe the peri‑operative experience.
- Obtain pertinent patient records prior to arrival for Pre‑Op testing.
- Perform all Pre‑Op testing (e.g., laboratory work, electro‑cardiogram, x‑rays).
- Report abnormal values to the anesthesiologist/attending surgeon.
- Explain informed consent, patient rights, and post‑operative instructions.
- Obtain necessary signatures.
- Inform patients about routine care and peri‑operative procedures.
- Discuss findings with the anesthesiologist before the pre‑operative evaluation.
- Provide comfort and reassurance and support patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Document Pre‑Op care in accordance with policy/procedure.
- Ensure that the patient chart is complete on the day before surgery.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Active licensed RN in the State of New Mexico; BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Minimum one year of experience in an intra‑operative setting.
- Demonstrated clinical competency, leadership, and teaching skills.
- Medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage.
