Job Description
The Academic Dean of Nursing oversees the academic operations of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and other nursing-related programs within a college or university. This leadership role ensures high-quality education, compliance with accreditation standards, and the development of competent nursing professionals. The Dean collaborates with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to advance the institution’s nursing education mission.
Salary: $115,000-$130,000
Key Responsibilities Academic Leadership- Develop and implement the strategic vision for the nursing program.
- Oversee curriculum development, ensuring alignment with industry standards, accreditation requirements, and emerging healthcare trends.
- Foster a culture of academic excellence and innovation in teaching methodologies.
- Recruit, hire, and evaluate nursing faculty.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for faculty.
- Coordinate faculty assignments and workload to meet program needs.
- Manage budgets, resources, and facilities for the nursing department.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation bodies (e.g., CCNE, ACEN) and state nursing board regulations.
- Monitor student outcomes, including graduation rates, NCLEX-RN pass rates, and employment metrics.
- Oversee student admissions, progression, and retention strategies.
- Address student concerns and ensure a supportive learning environment.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the student body and curriculum.
- Build partnerships with healthcare organizations for clinical placements and collaborative opportunities.
- Represent the nursing program at professional conferences, community events, and regulatory meetings.
- Secure grants and funding to support program growth and research initiatives.
- Encourage faculty and student research in nursing education and practice.
- Promote evidence-based practices in curriculum and clinical training.
- Education:
Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, or EdD) in nursing or a related field preferred;
Master’s degree in nursing required. - Experience:
Extensive experience in nursing education, including prior leadership or administrative roles;
Clinical nursing experience preferred;
Proven track record in curriculum development and accreditation processes. - Licensure:
Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment. - Skills:
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage diverse teams;
Expertise in budget management and resource allocation;
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities;
Knowledge of accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
