POSITION OVERVIEW The RN Clinical Hospice Director is responsible for the overall clinical leadership and operational management of hospice services. This role oversees the interdisciplinary care team, ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, and promotes the delivery of exceptional, patient-centered hospice care. Working closely with physicians, clinical staff, and organizational leadership, the Clinical Director will provide guidance, mentorship, and strategic oversight while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

This position plays a vital role in creating an environment where patients and families receive compassionate support and staff members are empowered to deliver outstanding care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clinical Leadership
  • Provide clinical oversight and leadership for all hospice services, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members, promoting professional growth and clinical excellence.
  • Lead interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings to coordinate patient care and review clinical outcomes.
  • Foster a collaborative, patient-centered culture focused on quality, compassion, and accountability.
  • Patient Care & Quality
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of individualized patient care plans.
  • Ensure the delivery of exceptional hospice care that addresses the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery.
  • Ensure patient safety while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation, HIPAA, state regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Oversee documentation accuracy, medical record management, and EMR compliance.
  • Maintain survey readiness and support successful regulatory and accreditation reviews.
  • Monitor clinical documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Operational Leadership
  • Manage the daily clinical operations of hospice services across assigned programs.
  • Support staffing, scheduling, performance management, and employee development.
  • Provide coaching, education, and performance evaluations for nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership to improve operational efficiency and clinical performance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE The successful candidate will possess:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Previous hospice leadership or clinical management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of hospice philosophy, Medicare regulations, and hospice compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing clinical teams.
  • Extensive experience with interdisciplinary care planning and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Experience with EMR/EHR systems and healthcare documentation.
  • A compassionate leadership style with a commitment to patient-centered care.
