American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring TNCC certification and prior travel or Level 1 trauma experience.
Details- Level I Trauma, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Acute Care setting with 554 staffed beds
- Emergency Department with approximately 60%-80% of patients admitted, many held in ED Holding rooms
- Currently experiencing an increased number of admit holds
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
- 36 or 48 hour contracts available (48 hours applies only to travelers with both Level 1 trauma and travel experience)
- Uses Cerner charting system
- Scheduled for weekends as needed (weekend days are Saturday and Sunday, weekend nights are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
- Floating to Peds ED is optional; floating to Adult PCUs is expected based on staffing needs; potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma
- No on-call requirements
- Not open to block scheduling
- Active RN license (NM or Compact) required, may pend at time of submission
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (TNCC required before submission)
- RQI certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required (will consider 1.5 years)
- Level II trauma experience required;
Level I trauma experience strongly preferred - Travel experience strongly preferred; first-time travelers with 2+ years of Level 1 trauma experience may be considered
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience preferred
- Skills preferred include IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, ventilator patient care, continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, care of neuro-trauma and spinal cord injury patients, and trauma/resuscitation experience
- Non-local candidates only, must reside more than 100 miles from the facility with non-local driver's license on file
- Provide emergency department nursing care including medication administration via IV using the seven medication rights
- Document and communicate clinical findings
- Required to work 2 of the 3 holiday bundles (Thanksgiving & the day after, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, or New Year's Eve & New Year's Day)
- COVID vaccine is optional, but facility requires reporting of vaccine status or declination
- Requests for RTO greater than 7 days require approval; no RTO during the first or last 7 days of the contract
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have 2+ years of Level 1 trauma experience, though travel experience is strongly preferred
- A 6-month system break is required after 1 year or 4 consecutive assignments, whichever comes first
- Former staff must have a 12-month separation before returning
- Scrub color is black, not facility-provided
