Travel RN - Med​/Surg

American Traveler is hiring a Correctional RN for an 18-week night shift assignment at a detention center, requiring at least 1 year of correctional, ED, or MS experience and MOAB certification.

Requirements

• Active RN license (NM or Compact) currently in hand or pending accepted
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and MOAB (facility-provided training available)
• RQI certifications not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of correctional experience required
• Candidates without corrections experience must have 1 year of ED experience
• Candidates with only Med/Surg experience should have at least 2 years in a large, high-acuity facility (350+ beds)
• Must be able to remain on feet for approximately 80% of shift
• Must be able to pass a facility background check
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted, though prior experience is preferred

Responsibilities

• Work within the Correctional unit of a detention center housing approximately 1,900 inmates with an average daily population of 1,640
• Provide routine and emergency healthcare including health assessments, detoxification protocols, and referrals to providers, dental, and mental health professionals
• Responsible for triaging and assessing new patients entering the facility and conducting detox rounds per protocol
• Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours (18:00-06:30)
• 36 or 48 hour contracts available
• Required to work every other weekend
• Block scheduling requests considered based on unit need
• Uses Cerner charting system
• No on-call responsibilities specified
• Facility is smoke-free at all times with no designated smoking areas, including the parking lot
• COVID vaccine is optional; candidates must upload vaccination series or submit a declination
• Must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for travel rate; a non-local driver s license on file is required
• Must work at least 2 of 3 designated holiday bundles:
  Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, or New Year s Eve and New Year s Day
• Requests for RTO greater than 7 days require approval, and RTO is not permitted during the first or last 7 days of the contract
• Travelers who have completed 4 consecutive assignments or reached the one-year mark require a 6-month system break
• Former staff must have a 12-month separation before returning to the facility
• New contracts and extensions must be a minimum of 10 weeks
